Welcome to my crocheted pokédex! This is my collection of yarn pokémon that I've caught out in the wild. I found most of them on my own*, but had some help from fellow trainers** to catch a few of them! The info provided mostly comes from my own observations of these little guys, but I also draw information from bulbapedia from time to time. Enjoy!
*(this means I crocheted the pokémon freehand without using a pattern)
**(this means I used part or all of someone else's pattern to crochet a pokémon. Patterns will be cited when used!)
Seen: 420
Caught: 65
Caught: Spring of 2020 and December of 2022
Observations: The second Oddish I caught seems to be quite young, and even though I got him his own pot of dirt to burrow in during the day, he insists on bunking with my other Oddish in her pot. She doesn't seem to mind, probably because the new Oddish is so tiny, he hardly takes up any room. At night they like to run around and play with my cat.
Caught: April of 2021
Observations: She keeps her mane and tail very well-kept. She makes friends with new pokémon very easily.
Caught: December of 2022
Observations: He likes when I tell stories with shadow puppets, often hopping in the shadows to participate himself. He spooks some of the newer pokémon, but he ultimately means well.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: This is by far the tiniest pokémon I've caught. He loves to ride around in my jacket pocket and peek out at the world. I learned the hard way that if I put other objects in that pocket they'll get tangled in his little vines.
Caught: September of 2022
Observations: True to his name, he sleeps most of the time. He's sweet and patient and has been especially helpful making new pokémon feel at home here. His favorite food is cereal and he never forgets to drink the milk.
Caught: January of 2021
Observations: Unlike the snake-like movements of Dragonair, this Dratini likes to roll to get places. I think this might be specific to this individual Dratini though, and she has a silly personality overall. The only time she doesn't roll to get around is when there are sweets to be had.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She likes basking in the sun, and has taken to curling around the base of my lamp to nap in the evenings (she's quite small). I've had to start using only my water bottle because she'll splash and play in any open cup of water.
Caught: Summer of 2024
Observations: He's very timid and cautious but his careful nature hasn't stopped him from making friends though - the other pokémon are affectionate and protective of him. He always comes with me to check that I've closed the windows and locked the doors before bed so that neither of us has to worry.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: He loves nothing more than to cuddle. He will also shred any plastic bag in sight with his sharp little teeth. Sometimes we play hide and go seek, but if I take too long to find him he'll start impatiently chittering.
Caught: January of 2021
Observations: She found an old bag of glow-in-the-dark stars in my crafting cabinet and was so pleased she carried them around everywhere. Together, we built a little play fort for her out of a shoebox and the glow-in-the-dark stars. She loves when new pokémon come around so she can show it off.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She likes to roll around in the fresh laundry to collect the static. Often, socks will stick to her wool in this process.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She evolved so quickly! She still loves the fresh laundry and will "help" fold the clothes.
Caught: Fall of 2023
Observations: She finally evolved! Still just as cuddly though :)
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She's very high energy! I could barely get her to land and stay still enough for this picture.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She evolved! Still very energetic.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She evolved again! She loves doing cartwheels.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: Credit to this trainer for the help! This silly little guy loves jamming to music. His dancing is a lot of jumping up and down, swaying back and forth, or nodding his head solemnly, depending on the song. I tried to teach him how to spin, but I think it makes him too dizzy.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: He's incredibly curious and his favorite activity is to explore new places in my apartment. This can make him hard to find at times, but he always comes running if I pull out the oats.
Caught: February 2024
Observations: While Sneasel has a reputation for being a vicious pokémon, this little one is incredibly sweet (at least so long as I keep plenty of eggs in the house). She often hugs my wrist, which is extremely cute.
Caught: April of 2022 and March of 2023
Observations: They've got quite the sense of smell - nothing stays lost for terribly long if they know what it smells like. I sneak them into Target with me so we can pick out scented candles together.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: I actually caught her by accident when a pokéball I threw missed the rowlet I was aiming for and hit a tree that she was hanging from. She loves to be the center of attention, and seems quite happy here where there are plenty of pokémon to play with.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: I found him dancing on the surface of the water of a bird bath in a park. I named him Skeeter after the water spiders in Super Mario Sunshine. He'll do different dances for different types of liquid - my favorite is the lemonade ballet.
Caught: January of 2021
Observations: I found him after an unusually heavy bout of rain. He smells of wet, fresh earth and happily takes care of fruit that's started to mold. Don't be fooled by his grumpy face, he's got quite the sense of humor.
Caught: May of 2021
Observations: She's very playful. None of my shoelaces are safe.
Caught: May of 2024
Observations: He's always running around having adventures with Minun. I've never seen them apart. They're latest adventure was "what's all this under the sink?" They spilled quite a lot of shampoo.
Caught: May of 2024
Observations: She's inseparable from Plusle. They even sleep cuddled together. I wouldn't be surprised if their adventures continued in their dreams.
Caught: Summer of 2024
Observations: This Trapinch seems pretty young and hasn't grown into their head yet, which often tips forward or off to one side. They like to munch on crisp vegetables to show off how good they can chomp.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: If you look closely, Shuppets are all over the place. I've seen several sneak into people's hats. They usually travel in at least pairs. I caught this little pair near a bus stop.
Caught: Fall of 2023
Observations: She likes to play "bowling" with anything she can manage to knock over (which is luckily not much because she's rather small).
Caught: February of 2022
Observations: I found her in the nearby creek. She swam right up to me and patiently waited for me to get out a pokéball. In general, I think she just knows what she wants.
Caught: January of 2021
Observations: She politely waits for me to open the window to disperse her pollen. She knows it's better for my allergies.
Caught: October of 2021
Observations: He "finds" and stows away various things around the house like spools of thread, packets of fruit snacks, batteries, etc. He's still working on sharing.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: She's pretty laid back. Her favorite thing to do is watch cartoons. She gets along well with Snorlax.
Caught: Fall of 2023
Observations: Apparently in the ancient Hisui region, gastrodons of different colors were known to fight. With these two gastrodons, I've found the opposite to be true - they're best friends. I love these silly little guys with all my heart.
Caught: Februrary of 2021
Observations: If I don't take them on their nightly walk, they drift from wall to wall, bouncing gently like that one DVD screen saver. They share my love of how clouds look at night.
Caught: May of 2024
Observations: He enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles in a very particular, methodical way. Fortunately, he doesn't mind redoing the same ones over and over again.
Caught: Summer of 2024
Observations: She's rather outgoing and often play-fights other pokémon who want to test their strength. She's currently undefeated.
Caught: April of 2021
Observations: He climbs up to the roof to watch clouds or stars. I think he just likes the quiet. He seems to enjoy my company when I'm just sitting and reading.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She loves meeting new people, but only one at a time (crowds, reasonably, stress her out). She'll sometimes sprinkle snow into the drink of whoever she's meeting. It's unclear if this is intended to freshen their drink, as a prank, or as a mysterious sign of affection. (Credit to this trainer for the help!)
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: She keeps to herself most of the time, but likes when I turn on the heated blanket.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: I found this little one nestled into my yarn. He's a bit shy and very sweet. I've noticed my cotton yarns (he stays away from acrylic) are never tangled since he showed up! :)
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She's very interested in cooking. She joins me sometimes as my "junior chef" when I make dinner. Adding the spices is her favorite part.
Caught: May of 2024
Observations: She rarely ventures outside her pot, though nothing is actually stopping her from doing so. I think she likes being a little pampered. You'll find her wherever has the best sunlight, which is apparently a different spot every hour of the day.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: She helps me sort the waste. Despite appearances, she actually likes to keep the apartment quite neat and tidy.
Caught: Fall of 2023
Observations: Frosty in temperature but warm in disposition. He loses almost every game he plays with the other Pokémon, but doesn't seem to particularly mind.
Caught: 2021
Observations: It was very fun to see this little one change colors with the seasons. I first caught her in spring (pink) and was delighted to see her turn green in the summertime. I was fascinated to see that the new colors come from shedding the previous coat and growing in a new one (like when cats shed in summer lol).
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations:
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: She's obsessed with books. I don't think pokémon can read, but that doesn't stop her from hopping over the pages of a book and hooting insistently at whichever pokémon has stopped to listen, before turning the page and doing it again. I read to her over breakfast (her bedtime).
Caught: December 2024
Observations: She loves playing "hunt" (as pictured below with the Galarian corsola), but doesn't take herself so seriously that she won't do a silly dance when she hears a song she likes. She likes most songs.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: He likes to tour different window sills in the apartment to bask in the sun. I have to be careful taking him outside because he'll fall asleep in tall grass and can be quite difficult to find.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations:
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: A helpful nightlight and a wonderful friend.
Caught: Fall of 2023
Observations: Extremely cuddly. Does not want to not be cuddling.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: An extremely sweet little guy. We go on walks - she always wants to walk herself but is so small I have to pick her up before we reach the sidewalk.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: This little guy decided that the window sill above the kitchen sink is his spot. He won't even move to rehydrate, so I've taken to misting him with a spray bottle of water. Curiously, he always faces towards the kitchen, and never looks out the window.
Caught: Spring of 2020 and April of 2023
Observations: It took a while for my first mimikyu to come out of his shell (metaphorically speaking, of course he’d never take off his Pikachu disguise). Luckily, my second mimikyu warmed up a lot faster, with the first to help her feel more welcomed and at home.
Caught: June of 2023
Observations: This is an upbeat little fellow (pun intended). We play the game of 'will it drum?' in which he whacks different things to see how pleasing the resulting sound is. He is almost always delighted, regardless of the material.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: She's just a baby. I think her cotton puff will grow as she gets older.
Caught: December of 2019
Observations: Silly and joyful. She just likes hanging out. (Credit to this trainer for the help!)
Caught: April of 2021
Observations: I found her in a thrift shop. She seemed happy for the company and gets along well with the others :) Her favorite prank is to nestle amongst the mugs in the kitchen and try to trick guests into picking her up.
Caught: Summer of 2024
Observations:
Caught: June of 2023
Observations: At the beginning of the day she spends a very long time hovering very still (or as still as she can manage with her little bouncing milk droplet) considering all of the people and pokémon in the apartment. She chooses one to follow around for the rest of the day, retreating only to rest when it gets dark out.
Caught: Spring of 2020
Observations: This Frosmoth somehow made her way into my apartment. I found white flakes trailing through the living room (which I later learned were her shed scales). I followed them to find her freezing drops of water from the sink as they fell, seemingly for fun.
Caught: Early 2024
Observations: She's easily startled and likes to hang out in high places (usually the tops of cabinets) so she can see everything below.
Caught: May of 2023
Observations: She likes to crush empty soda cans before we recycle them and keeps the pull tabs as trophies.
